आज अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस है। पश्चिम के देशों में महिलाओं के लिये विशेष दिन निर्धारित किया गया ताकि पूरे विश्व के महिलाओं के प्रति पुरुष वर्ग का नजरिया बदले। वैश्वीकरण का दौर शुरु होने के बाद भारत में भी इस विशेष दिन का आगमन हो चुका है और आये दिन समाज पर इसका प्रभाव देखने को मिलता है। बहरहाल सरकार द्वारा दावा किया जा रहा है कि बिहार प्रगति के पथ पर अग्रसर है। सरकारी प्रमाण यह कि राज्य सरकार द्वारा महिलाओं को पंचायती राज संस्थाओं में 50 फ़ीसदी आरक्षण का अधिकार दे दिया गया है। इसका प्रभाव समाज पर दिखने लगा है।

जबकि सच्चाई यह है कि बिहार में अभी भी 95.5 फ़ीसदी महिलाओं के पास कोई अचल संपत्ति नहीं है। महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्रालय भारत सरकार द्वारा जारी एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार बिहार में केवल 7.6 प्रतिशत महिलाओं के बैंक में खाते हैं। यह तो केवल एक बानगी है बिहार में महिलाओं की स्थिति की। विकास के अन्य मानदंडों पर भी बिहार में महिलाओं की स्थिति अनुकूल नहीं है। मसलन बिहार में अभी भी महिलाओं की साक्षरता दर 33.75 फ़ीसदी है। राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर यह 40 फ़ीसदी के करीब है। बिहार के महिलाओं की बदहाली की दास्तान यही खत्म नहीं होती।
