66th Independence Day : May Our Dream of a new tomorrow come true to us, India should win its war against corruption

On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of free India, addressed the Constituent Assembly. In his famous speech, Tryst with Destiny, he declared the end of the colonial era and called on citizens to recognize the promise and opportunity of the moment:

On August 15, 1947, India won its independence from the British rule, and that independence is celebrated every year, although in a much more subdued form than on Republic Day. The Independence Day of India is much more than commemorating the anniversary of India’s free statehood. It is a moment of celebration, a day to pay tribute to the martyrs because of whose struggle and sacrifice we are breathing an air of freedom. "At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom," said Jawaharlal Nehru about this, one of the most important days in the history of the Indian nation.

Independence Day is acknowledged as a national holiday in India. This year, India will celebrate its 66th 

Independence Day.

QUESTION will arise after 66th year of Independence what we got ?

As I remember whether it is true or fiction story but saying goes as: 

In 1954 when our first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was going by open jeep from MIT(Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology) to sikandrpur maidan,Muzaffarpur for speech. On the way a poor people shouted - "O pandit Nehru,O pandit Nehru"

Mr. Nehru order the security to call that man and asked him what he to say, the poor fellow said "India got Freedom and you became the P.M  but still I'm poor what did I get" ?

Mr. Nehru replied, "kaya yehi kam mila ki tum ek P.M se aise bat kar rahe ho wo bhi jeep rukwa kar (is it not sufficient that you are talking before a P.M to stop a jeep ? )"

Poor man immediately touched his feet and said : pleased pardon me, I got everything..

But now a days we are facing :

Over 60% of respondents listed 'corruption' as the biggest threat facing India today, and 80% supported the Anna Hazare-led campaign to fight graft. Opinion is more divided on what they'd do if asked to pay a bribe. While 35% said they would not pay and 'walk away quietly', 34% stated they would lodge a complaint. But a sizeable 28% admitted they'd pay up. Only Bangalore, with 69% saying they'd pay a bribe, appeared to skew towards a majority tolerating corruption in some way.

But most young Indians agree on making corruption a serious offence. Almost two-thirds felt life imprisonment should be awarded to those found guilty.

Interestingly, when asked what India's greatest achievement in the last decade was, respondents, surprisingly, gave short shrift to the country's globally feted march to economic superstardom; just as they did to our much vaunted telecom revolution. The decade's big moment for them was clearly Team India's emphatic cricket World Cup victory.

Little surprise then that young urban India's biggest icon is Sachin Tendulkar; 31% pointed to him when asked who their role model was. Anna Hazare, who appears to have really caught young India's imagination, comes (a distant) second, with Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan next. Rahul Gandhi is fifth on the list.

When asked what the most important right/freedom is, most respondents chose 'the right to live and work anywhere in India', with this pipping free speech, the 'right to vote' and 'freedom of religion'.

Our’s is a wonderful nation with ample natural, human resources. We are a developed nation. However, why is that we face this problem of Corruption in several levels of the society. Why is that we cannot have a corrupt free nation. Why should our hardwork payed in terms of taxes go into the pockets of some shameless, waste officers and so called politicians. If we have the capability to EARN we should have the capability to PROTECT , what we earn. To set everything right. We need to have strict laws. Let us support Shri Anna Hazare in this aspect. He is advocating for a Bil, The Lok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzaffarpur is a premier institution of eastern India for technical education. It is under administrative control of department of science and technology and wholly funded by Govt. of Bihar. Established in 1954, MIT is one of the oldest technical institute in India. The foundation stone was laid by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

It is affiliated to B.R.A. Bihar University and offers undergraduate programs in engineering and pharmacy with postgraduate specialisation in Machine design and thermal engineering. The institute also caters to the research and development activities of the state of Bihar.

Signs of renewal in Bihar

Bihar is often seen as India’s Somalia: a failed state run by a venal political elite, a civil society fractured by caste, a dysfunctional bureaucracy that does not police the streets or ensure that teachers attend school and an economic sinkhole bypassed by the economic boom that has transformed the country. Biharis have voted with their feet, and their mass migration has led to a backlash in cities as diverse as Mumbai, Guwahati and Ludhiana. Bihar is too big and strategically important to be allowed to wallow in backwardness. The new numbers published by the Central statistics office offer hope of renewal: They show that the state’s output from 2004-05 to 2008-09 grew at a double-digit annual rate, outperforming India as a whole. It is yet not clear what has propelled Bihar’s growth in these years, but one clear possibility is the change of government in the state: from Lalu Prasad to Nitish Kumar. No economy can grow when the rule of the law has collapsed and deep institutional decline raises the cost of economic activity, constant features on the Bihar landscape since at least the end of the 1980s. The larger lesson is that the politics of redistribution inevitably becomes a grab for resources unless robust economic growth keeps the cake growing. That is the tragic dividend of Mandalism. It is hard to believe that Bihar was rated India’s second best governed state after Independence by the Paul Appleby report. The late journalist and political thinker Arvind Das saw Bihar as a metaphor for India. He often pointed out that this is the state of Gautam Buddha and King Ashoka, of Rajendra Prasad and Jayaprakash Narayan. It’s now the state of anarchy. It is too soon to conclude that Bihar has healed and is ready to participate in the modern Indian economy as an equal partner rather than as a laggard that sucks public funds and sends millions of impoverished immigrants to other states. There is always the danger of reading too much into random bits of statistics; the same mistake was made with West Bengal a few years ago, which grew at around 1 percentage point faster than the national average for around 10 years but really does not offer enough economic opportunity to its residents compared with what states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu or Karnataka do. It is hard to believe that a mere change in the state government can uproot deep-rooted problems within five years. But there is definitely reason to believe that the Nitish Kumar government has done enough to undo some of the worst features of the Lalu Prasad years.Is Bihar on the path to recovery? Comment:

Ranchi_patna Road (National Highway-33) on the mercy of coal mafia

A vast portion of National Highway-33 in eastern India connecting Ranchi with Patna, the capitals of two neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Bihar respectively, caved-in near a place named Kuju in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand on 10 August 2009.

This caving in of the highway has been attributed to a fire that has been raging from the underground coal mines in the vicinity since early morning hours of Sunday (August 10). This happened on the stretch between Loha Gate and Kuju where instances of fire from unused or closed mines are believed to be frequent.

Reportedly, the area is rich in coalfields and was once under mining by Central Coal Fields Limited (CCI). Later, it was left abandoned, where some villagers did illegal mining and left the coal reserve exposed within the earth, which caught fire when the black diamond came in contact with air.

Consequent to the raging fire, the district administration and police officials have stopped all kind of vehicular traffic on the highway. "Early morning at four, a portion of National Highway-33 got caved in. We have blocked the highway so that nobody can inadvertently enter here. The district administration and police officials have cordoned off the area with red cord barring any traffic inflow," said B K Singh, General Manager, Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL).

The underground mine fire was so intense that it created a deep crater on the highway disrupting the traffic and causing panic among the people residing in the nearby villages. Now, the families from these villages have been asked to vacate their homes and move on to some safer place until the fire is completely doused off.

There are around 52 homes in the surrounding villages. "The situation is really worse. We are residing in this village for the past 30-40 years. CCI (Central Coal Fields Limited) was looking after it but they are unable to do anything. Even government can't do anything. We have been given two days to vacate the village," said Santosh Kumar, a resident of a village near Kuju.

The coal mine fire has spread to the entire underground area and the solid coal base within the earth has got reduced to ashes and now slowly cracks have started appearing on the surface of the earth.

The devastating mine-fire under National Highway-33 connecting Patna with Ranchi near Kuju in Jharkhand has increased the distance between the two capitals. Reports said that the crater formed on the Ranchi-Patna Highway further widened on Tuesday.

Another crater has appeared near the old one near Loha Gate in Kuju in Ramgarh district. The diameter of crater has increased from 15 to 20 feet. The other crater is 30 metre from the Highway and is smaller in size. It is feared that more crater would come up if the fire is not brought under control soon.

Now the routes taken by the vehicles are quite circuitous. They have to go through either Bokaro or Ghato. The smaller vehicles are, however, still going through the old route via a newly built diversion along side the subsided Highway stretch. Nobody can guess how long will it take for the normalization of traffic.

The underground fire is now taking calamitous proportion. It is now an uphill task for the Coal India Limited. Local people said that had the warning signals been timely addressed the situation would not have worsened to such an extent. “We are using chemicals, foams and water to control the intensity of underground fire. Once this is done we will have to go in for open cast mining to extinguish the fire completely, and take out coal and the area will be refilled with earth,” said CIL Chairman-cum- Managing Director, Rajan Kumar Saha. He said that it would take at least three months to construct a diversion near Kuju. It will be done under the CCL community development porgramme. The diversion would be builtd by the National Highway Authority of India and the CCL would provide the money. Saha attributed the devastating underground fire to miscreants involved in illegal mining.

Coal is highly combustible and when it comes in contact with oxygen it forms carbon di oxide and carbon-monoxide besides generating a lot of heat. When the heat does not dissipate it accumulates and comes out in flames. He denies that warning signals in the form of smoke billowing out from the mine were not taken seriously. He said that the CCL had abandoned that mine. The smoke started coming out of the ground only just a few days ago and the CIL took immediate action, he claimed.

The district administration as well as the local people, on the other hand, claims that the smoke had been coming out from the mines for the last several months.

Work to revive two sugar mills started in Bihar

Two sugar mills, Sugauli and Lauriya mills will start working after being close for over twelve years.HPCL is investing Rs 600 crores to revive these mills. Therefore a potential for revenue generation.

Elections, Politicians and Education

On a another note, I don't see the government taking any specific new steps for infrastructure or any other type of growth, because of the poll code of conduct coming into effect . So for the next two months, it would be a fruitful exercise to highlight some of the possible political dimensions and impacts that can have an effect on the future of Bihar. Hence I will be posting some relevant views where ever possible relating to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

However everyone should take my views with a pinch of salt because like every other human being my views might be biased because of the perceptions I develop based on the events that are unfolding in Bihar.

This article in Hindustan Times caught my eye "Peep into qualifications of representatives from Bihar"

As per this article, Bihar was represented in the 14th Lok Sabha by some highly educated representatives especially when you consider the state of literacy in Bihar. Out of the 40 representatives in the Lok Sabha from Bihar, there were 34 who were at least graduates. Out of these thirty four, there were nineteen representatives who were either a postgraduate or had a technical degree like Engineering or MBBS or had a Ph D. Even out of the BAs/MAs , 9 had LLB degrees too.

So if I consider the total number of representatives in Bihar who had more than a graduation, then the number would sure be greater than 20 or more than 50%. Thus 50% of the members in the parliament from Bihar were highly educated in the 14th Lok Sabha. Many of them had been part of the 13th Lok Sabha too. There were only 3 representatives who were non-matric.

I therefore have a question... With so many educated representatives from Bihar, why is it that many of them have not done enough for Bihar's development. Why did these people, some of whom have been a MP for atleast 2 terms not think about the state? We thought education brought changes but does the Bihari politician prove this wrong? Or is it us, the people of Bihar who have given these politicians the free hand for not doing anything for Bihar?

In my view, it is time for the people of Bihar to reject any politician who has not added to the development of Bihar, irrespective of whether she/he is highly educated or less educated or not educated ... Reject all politicians who have not supported the growth of Bihar. Let the political community know that the people of Bihar will not accept any non-performers in Bihar.

I know it is not going to be easy and nor will it happen just because a handful of us think this way. But then the handful of us can be instrumental in getting across this message to a lot more people in Bihar. Are we willing to do so for Bihar?

1. Name the country, where a convicted terrorist, who masterminded attack on the highest institution of the country and subsequently sentenced to death, is not hanged since last 2+ years ?

2. Name the country, where the family members of the slain security forces, returned the 'presidents medal of honor'  because they thought that 'not hanging' the convicted terrorist is = 'showing disrespect to the sacrifices' of the brave martyrs.

3.Name the home minister, who said that the President has got 7 years of time  to decide the clemency petition of the death-convicted terrorist.

4. Name the prisoner in a neighboring country, with whom, our Home minister is planning a prisoner exchange to make a way for release of death convicted terrorist.

5. Name the country, where millions of voters are disrespected by major political parties, because they have installed a CM or PM from a right wing party.


Dear readers:

When pseudo-seculars talk about so called Hindutva terrorism, they deliberately ignore the consequences of their actions. They believe that, being in power they can do whatever to show disrespect to the voters, martyrs and patriots and the people just tolerate without any reaction.

The degree of frustration varies among the patriots; there can't be any rationale or logic to understand, why the clemency of 'Afzal Guru' had to be accepted at first place. Just because Ghulam Navi Azad demanded under pressure from Kashmir separatists ?

When the clemency petition of Afzal Guru is accepted and put on hold for 7 years, the people in power forgot that, what signal it is going to  send to our patriotic  security forces, who are in a profession to save the country.

The name 'Hindutva' is used in a mocking manner by Indian media and pseudo-seculars;what a shame.

Without thinking of any consequence, Pakistan supported terrorism in J&K, recognized Taliban extremists and arranged terror camps  for them. Interestingly, it also offered to take a front seat in war against terror. Now, all those past hostile actions (principal)  towards India and Afghanistan are being paid off with interest.

In the Hollywood movie 'traitor', there is a scene where during a jail fight between two criminals, one says, there are 50 inmates who are ready to fight for him, A question is asked, "how many of them are ready to die for him ?" - None.

Every army recruit joins army with full knowledge of  its expected sacrifice. Most of the the officers get at least one  3 year mandatory (first) posting in Kashmir. They are vulnerable to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs); their convoys can be ambushed at any time in spite of all  precautionary and preventive measures. They have been dealing with the religious fanatics equipped with all kinds of advanced weaponry and trained in  terror camps.

 In India, many people  don't have  time to think about the above as they might be thinking that their duty is over when they elected a CM or PM to do the things which is best for their country. But unfortunately, they do the best thing to secure their vote bank. This exactly is the case.

Terrorists have been hitting hard all of us (majority of those killed are from Hindu community) like punching bags and our Government have been treating convicted terrorists as 'son-in-law'. What would be psyche of  the patriots ? No one is talking here about an alleged terrorist, we are talking about a hardcore convicted terrorist, 7 years after the event.

If it touches your heart - then you realize, How the current Government failed its Voters by breaching the trust of voters and compromised National Security by allowing the clemency petition of a convicted terrorist to safeguard its then government in J&K and secure the minority vote bank. Not only this, it is exploring opportunities to exchange him with Sharabjit Singh, an Indian Death Convict in Pakistan Jail. It deliberately apprises Pakistan, to raise the exchange demand with Afzal Guru so that the Government can tell people that - it had no other option but to release Afzal Guru.

Dear readers: The so called Hindu terrorism or involvement of few patriotic Indian army officers, even if it is true, is the result of frustration. Non of the politicians are hit by the punching bags. The citizens hit and they see the clemency effort as a breach of trust by their Government to appease a section of people. They decided to fight this terror themselves and result we see..

Technically, some say that these people shouldn't have taken the law in to their hands. But count the number of terrorist attacks [ Click Here to read the full article ] and do you expect them to be patient indefinitely. They are not god ?

Some say that, these people killed innocent Muslims. But, apparently, the Government is responsible for creating such war like situation. This is unfortunate, but Muslims favor and vote such Government because they see more safety or expect more appeasement (as opposed to equal treatment at par with their majority peers). So they should collectively pressurize the Government to hang Afzal Guru and avoid such majority terror.

You can have both 'head and tail' at same time. Majority Hindus see this so called Hindu Terrorism as  the beginning of a Nationalist Movement against Islamic Terror and failure of an elected Government because of an appeasement policy. The activists of minority community are keeping the pressure on PM to show favour or lose their Vote. [Okhla Encounter: P. M. Obstruction of justice is caused by the pseudo-secular activists; They don't trust PM, Intelligence Bureau, Delhi Police and Indian Army. They don't have any faith on the existing law and courts unlike their alleged majority peers, who don't expect any concessions but fighting at courts.

So, no wonder of tomorrow every Islamic terror punch is returned with a patriotic punch (so called Hindu terror ). Apparently, patriots need not go to a foreign country for training. The frustrated and demoralized security forces can risk their jobs and train the patriots.

Statement To Police After 2006 Nanded Blast Said Retired Intelligence Bureau & Army Personnel Were Trainers At Camp

Thane: A statement made to the police in 2006 has brought into focus the possibility that retired officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) may have links with radical Hindutva outfits and may also be actively participating in camps organised by the Bajrang Dal, a militant wing of the RSS. 

    The statement was made by Pune resident Sanatkumar Bhate after the Nanded blast in 2006. He was then a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sympathiser, but later distanced himself from te outfit. 

    Bhate, who had imparted training in self-defence and lathi combat to Bajrang Dal cadres, had revealed that ex-IB officials and ex-Indian Army personnel were involved with the H i n d u t va brigade. The confession was made to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in July 2006. 

    While the role of army personnel has come under the scanner following the arrests of Lt Col Shrikant Purohit and Major (Retd) Ramesh Upadhyay in the Malegaon blast case, no questions have been asked about ex-IB officials. 

    Bhate had then named the Bhonsale Military School in Pune as the venue for the Dal's traning camp. Questions are being raised about the delay made by investigating agencies to further probe the confessions made by Bhate two years ago. 

    Bhate, a former merchant navy captain, had spilled the beans before the ATS while being questioned about his association with those involved in the blast at Nanded. Bhate is understood to have been in close contact with Dal leader Himanshu Panse, who died in the blast in a residence in April 2006. Two persons died while a bomb was being manufactured. Two others died later in hospital. 

    Bhate had stated that he attended a 40-day All India Bajrang Dal camp held in May 2000 at the Bhonsale Military School, where 110 to 115 Dal cadres had assembled from across the nation. "At this camp, the retired army officials and ex-IB officials imparted training in air-gun shooting and also in karate, obstacle course etc,'' Bhate had said in his statement recorded by ATS official A Tamaychekar. 

    TOI is in possession of this document which reveals the elaborate planning and training of the Bajrang Dal cadres in armed defence. Bhate had also handed over photographs of the event and accommodation arrangements made for participants. 

    Po l i t i c a l leaders are now demanding a scrutiny of Bhate's statement as well as a thorough probe into the Dal's activities, including its networking with institutions like the army and IB. NCP leader Jitendra Awhad has demanded a white paper into the entire issue and is seeking details of the training camp held in 2000. 

    "I have asked the state government to prepare a white paper on this issue and the possibility of Hindutva groups being linked to blasts in Nanded, Parbhani and Jalna. The state government should reveal who had organised this training camp, the names of all the participants, who were the people who imparted training to the cadres, etc. Moreover, the white paper should also share information on whether the blasts in Nanded, Parbhani and Jalna can be linked to this group,'' Awhad said. 

    The Nanded blast had occurred in April 2006 in the house of one Laxman Rajkondwar. It is said that the police had stumbled upon incriminating documents and items like a skull cap, fake beard and so on while searching the blast site. 'Hindutva infiltration' in army: CPM 

New Delhi: With reports of more than one serving army officer involved in the Malegaon blasts, the CPM on Friday said "Hindutva infiltration" in the army had "disturbing implications for national security" and demanded full investigation. 

    In a statement, CPM politburo said, "The new dimension to the growing threat must be fully investigated and the entire network and persons involved uncovered." The party also criticised BJP for dismissing involvement of serving officers as "sponsored investigation". "The RSS and its outfits are making absurd statements that Hindus cannot be terrorists. These are the same people who go on talking about Islamic terrorism," CPM said. 

    Emphasising that terror should not be seen through the prism of religion, the party said, "What needs to be recognised is that some extremist elements both amongst Muslims and Hindus are resorting to terrorist violence... The central government must take the reports of Hindutva infiltration in the Army seriously." 

    The CPM also demanded an enquiry into the role of Bhonsala Military School, a privaterun institution in Maharashtra. It said the school should be investigated and such places should not be used for military training. TNN

Weird Bihari sub-nationalism

Several experts attribute the backwardness of Bihar to the absence of the Bihari sub-nationalism. Whether they are right or wrong is not the issue here as there are many geo-sociological causes of the backwardness of the state. What they argue is that West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu etc are more developed because there is sub-nationalistic zeal among the people of these states.

There is no doubt that Biharis are derided, ridiculed and even humiliated not only in Maharashtra, but also in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Delhi etc. Very often they are collectively dubbed as uncivilized and ignorant bunch of people, who lack manner and etiquette. This notwithstanding the fact that an overwhelming number of both skilled and unskilled workers from Bihar are contributing to the development of these states.

Rahul Raj, who died at the hands of the Mumbai Police on October 27, may go down in the history as the first person in the recent memory to consciously lay down his life in the name of Bihari sub-nationalism. His action can never be justified or condoned but there is no dearth of people who may declare him as the first martyr for the cause of the state. However, it is also true that he may be forgotten by the people in the way nobody now remembers those who self-immolated themselves during the anti-Mandal agitation of early 1990s.

Rahul's is a typical urban middle class story. He is the son of Kundan Prasad Singh, a teacher at Arvind Mahila College in Patna. He was reportedly in search of job in Mumbai and was very much agitated over the anti-Bihari feeling frequently whipped by Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leaders Bal Thackeray and Raj Thackeray.

Youths like Rahul Raj take up arms when they feel that the community to which they belong is being ignored and neglected. They feel let down, humiliated and cornered. It needs to be understood that Rahul resorted to the tactic of 'hijacking' a bus in Mumbai just at the height of the anti-Thackerays movement in Bihar.

Unlike the unemployed youths of Maharasthra there is nobody to take up their cause. The mainstream political leaders of the state be it Lalu, Nitish or Ram Vilas can certainly not behave like the Thackerays and whip up anti-Maharashtra sentiment in their own state.

However, people like Thackerays––Bal, Raj and Udhav––have by their action made saner and democratic leadership irrelevant in Bihar. Even if a minuscule proportion of the state youth think that gun is the solution than they are wrong. Sub-nationalism or even nationalism can not be put on display with the help of revolver, especially in the land from where Gandhi launched the first non-violent movement.

Is it not a fact that the terrorism has been made fun of for few for the sake of a certain favourite community? Sadhvi was arrested in Malagaon blast case based on the motor bike that was used by the Sadhvi long back while the owner is different now. There is not even a single evidence against Sadhvi that can put her up even under as a suspect. There has been no search discovery of any ammunition or relevant equipment. There has been no other reliable information based on which the arrest could be made justified.

 

It is clearly seen that the ATS designed the arrest to transmit a bad name to the Sadhu community & through which, to the Hindus community as a whole. The reason being that the Muslims & their organizations had made hue & cry post Batla house encounter that made the ATS & the government obliged to Muslims by implementing the Sadhvi's arrest. The nation has been made a ridiculous stock. ATS has proved that it is not an independent professionally working organization but like CBI as a pro government body.

 

There has been lamentation of a blame that the Sadhvi used the yogic exercise of medication while being tested that obstructed the detecting procedures & the machine could not ride over the Sadhvi. The relevant experts have rejected the explanation of spiritual resistance control during questioning. The police could also not been able to discover any substance from the army officers. The fact remains that the investigation has demoralized army while the consistency of the government & the ATS has been subject to a big question mark.

 

Dig Vijay Singh claims that the Sadhvi is a terrorist since she campaigned for Gujrat elections for Modi. Is it the acceptable reason for her being a terrorist associated with the Hindu oganisations? The whole investigation methods adopted by the ATS have spoken about the low profile standards of this organistion. It is unfortunate for a nation Bharat who is based on Bharat Sanskriti that its real religious leaders are put under the suspicion of terrorism while the real terrorists from the foreign Muslim nations are not even arrested.

 

The government has no plan to throw out illegal or legal Bangla Desh nationals who are the real threat to the national integrity. All secular parties are inclined to keep them within the nation by granting them the citizenship so that the votes are preserved for ever.

 

It is also felt that in case, such designs continue against the Hindus community, the Hindus too shall start the retaliatory terrorists activities against the terrorist community of the foreign lands that state of affairs is neither good for the world nor for the nation. It is therefore, necessary that the terrorism must be combat urgently but the government has been sleeping long sound sleep after selling all its mental horses for ever. The people of Bharat have a constitutional right for the protection that has been snatched virtually by the terrorists as the government has been inactive. It is expected that the government is absolutely incapable to combat the terrorism & the people have to install another competent government for the betterment of the nation

It appears that our Hindu fellows also started liking the 'Urdu' names of Terrorist organizations.

You might have heard about Lashkar-e-Toiba; Now know about 'Lashkar-e-Hind'. (read below an e-mail communication)

No doubt that the failure of Govt. of India to contain the Islamic terrorist attacks and lingering of hanging of Afzal Guru has some role to play in it.

For Islamic terrorists, the whole India is a terror field, they plant bombs during peak travel time, first class compartments where more Hindus will travel. They don't even mind if few Muslim causalities.

The Lashkar-e-Hind' may have some good meaningful name, but Hindus selecting an Urdu name, which sounds like a terrorist organization - is surprising and alarming..
 
As of now  objective of  Lashkar-e-Hind sounds OK [URGENT!!! Chalo Nasik - Support Sadhvi Pragya] as she is not yet convicted. How far politics has role in it, only time will tell. But, even if Sadhvi Pragya turns out to be innocent, the LASHKAR E HIND and others will still inspired by this incident and 1 Islamic attack will be followed by 1 Hind Attack.

In either case common people like us will be screwed up.

The UPA's soft on terror policy is really screwing India and fueling normal peaceful people to take up arms.

[madad-bihar-2008] Bihar floods - Letter submitted to Supaul District Magistrate 2 weeks earlier

Dear all,

I thought will share some of the testimonials of people still living in marooned villages in Supaul Dt, Bihar. Attached is the portion of the Letter submitted to Supaul District Magistrate written by Swati Maliwal of Parivartan. Many people joined us while giving the complaint each of them representing their wards/ panchayats.

Unfortunately, DM response was indifferent and less considerate however he promised to take some action. We are trying to follow up with our contacts in their panchayats on action taken but much have not moved except for occasional medical team visit. Lot have to be done still.

Dear Sir,

 

A team of 2 activists, Swati Maliwal from Parivartan and Somu Kumar from AID-USA visited some of the marooned Panchayats- Manganj Paschim and Manganj Poorvi.

 in Triveniganj block, District Supol for two days from 06.10.08 to 08.10.08.

 

We interacted with many people from different wards of these Panchayats. It has been very painful to witness the condition of the people here and we would like to present some of their stories in our report.  For the first half of the trip we could take some photographs and videos of the people we were interviewing. However, later while trying to wade through some waters in order to reach a ward, our camera fell into the water. We were not able to take any more photographs after that but we took down notes.

 

Kosi having changed its course, is flowing through Manganj Paschim Panchayat. The Panchayat is completely marooned in water. A boat is needed to even travel between the different wards of the Panchayat. However, the people have refused to let go of their lands, their animals and the little hope and protection that they feel in their own area, amongst their own people. Manganj Paschim has a population of 11,000 people. It has 10 wards. At present, there are atleast 300-400 people in each ward. The Ex-Mukhiya of the Panchayat have done some counting and has come up with the figures of around 3500-4000 people still reiding in the Panchayat. When we asked the people of the wards that we visited, i.e. Ward 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, they all confirmed this figure. Plus one look around and a quick head count of the number of people who assembled there confirmed this figure.

 

The following issues emerged from our interaction with several people from the different wards that we visited, i.e. Wards 4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10.

 

a.     No Government Relief has reached this Panchayat till date.

Upon our interaction with the people, we discovered that no government relief has reached them till date. Even when the food packets were being air dropped, the people informed that not even one packet was dropped in this area. Some even told us that they waived to the helicopter, put a red flag over there roofs, yet no relief was dropped. A few which were dropped were wasted away as they fell in the waters. The people shared that no relief has ever reached them through army boats. The army boats came only for rescue and did not provide relief to any, despite the fact that many chose to remain in this area.

Md Tahir from Mansari Tola, Ward 5 described how he and his family i.e. him, his wife, 6 children and his mother in law remained hungry for the initial 6 days on their roof top. Later, he survived on the grains shared with him by his neighbour. They had 6 animals- 3 cows and 2 goats, out of which one cow died and the others have stopped giving milk as there is no feed available for them. He informed us that no government relief has reached them till date. He explained how till date, they are able to fetch only a single meal a day. Even though he was a labourer, he managed a wholesome three meal along with sufficient milk for his family and sufficient milk before the floods.

 

Sameena Khatoon, a nine year old girl from Mansari Tola, told us that she gets to eat only once in a day. She had not eaten anything since the past one day.

 

Resham Lal Sardar s/o Swargiya Palat Sardar described how he was a labourer, yet used to feed the 7 people in his family three times meals before the floods. He always used to drink milk and have green vegetables. However, after the floods, they have to beg around for food and even then they manage only a single meal in a day.

 

Gita Devi w/o Swargiya Moginder Yadav is a widow. She was scared about leaving her village and that is why refused to leave when the army arrived. She has 6 small daughters. She had 4 acres of land and she used to manage well with that. However, now her standing crop has got submerged, and her house has got washed away. She shared that manier times these days, she is not even getting a single meal in a day. Same is the condition of another widow Sita Devi w/o Swargiya RamChandra Yadav.

 

Harinandan Yadav s/o Saini Yadav, Ramchandra Yadav s/o Nathan Prasad Yadav and Der Mandal s/o Jagannath Mandal from Ward 3 shared how they have to beg and eat. They told us that they have started taking loans from the local money lenders and that is how they are somehow managing.

 

Tetar Sardar s/o Romi Sardar from Ward 10 described how he had remained on the nearby Sursur dam (Koriapatti Bridge) for a month without any relief and support from the government. Only 10 packets were air dropped in a population of thousands. Most of these packets also fell in the water or in shit. informed us that there are 7 people in his family .

 

It is evident after talking to the people that the government failed miserably in providing relief to these marooned people. When the government can provide 3 times meals, 2 times milk, clothes, buckets, utensils, teachers, doctors in a mega camp, why can it not provide even the most basic relief to these people.

 

 

The government has announced a grant of Rs 2250 and 1 Quintal grains for flood affected people. However, it has not made arrangements for this grain to be provided inside the villages. The distribution of this grant is happening at the Block office or at some main market in the Block Head Quarters. For Manganj Paschim and Poorvi, the same is happening inTriveniganj Bazaar. The people from marooned villages are coming out with great difficulty. The people from Manganj Paschim informed us that it takes 2 days to reach the head quarters. They have to swim for some portion, hitch a ride on a boat for some portion or simply walk in the water for some period. Upon reaching, many of them are denied their grants. They are told that there name has not been entered in the Ration Card List (A.P.L/ B.P.L). So even though their name exists in the voter list, they are denied their grant and have been told that they would be given the grant after their name is entered in the A.P.L/ B.P.L. list. We met several such people in Manganj Paschim and in Manganj Poorvi. At present, there are atleast 300 people Army came to this area but only to rescue people. It did not bring about any relief material along with it. The people in Manganj Paschim have told us that they did not even receive the They have refused to let go of their animalsThe water, initially in the villages was up to 3-4 ft. the people recall that The people somehow managed for the initial days by climbing up their roofs or trees. Many remained hungry for many days as no government relief reached them.
