Last year 'Pitr Paksha', Suresh Narayan performed the
'Pind daan' for eminent personalities like late West Bengal chief
minister Jyoti Basu and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S R
Reddy.
Narayan, who had in past performed 'pind daan' for
personalities like legendary Shehnai player Ustad Bismillah Khan,
explained how he considered it to be a mandatory rite to bring salvation
to the departed souls as a devout Hindu.
This
small time businessman spends money from his own pocket and has been
doing Pinddaan for the salvation of departed for years. According to
Hindu tradition, Pindaan is offered for father for the salvation of his
soul at the banks of Falgu river in Gaya.
But
breaking this tradition he has been offering Pinddaan to so many people
in the past. And these people are in no way connected to him, in past,
he offered it for 2004 tsunami victims, the victims of Gujarat
earthquake of 2001, to the the terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple
in 2002 and the 9/11 terror attacks in the US.
Not
only that, he has also offered Pinddaan to ladies like, US-based
astronaut Kalpana Chawla and Mother Teresa as well. He has also
performed the ritual for sehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, a muslim.
Narayan has even
arranged mass 'pind daan' for the victims of Leh cloudburst, flood
victims in Pakistan and China, policemen killed in an encounter with
Naxalites in Lakhisarai and victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
"I have been performing mass 'Pind daan' since 2001 and I consider it as my duty towards humanity."
On
being asked about the rationale behind performing 'pind daan' for
people unrelated to him, Narayan says, "I believe that all of them are
linked with me in some way."
While
talking to media he said, “I organise the ritual irrespective of the
dead person’s caste, religion and creed. I have been performing the
rituals for the salvation of people with whom I do not have any blood
relation or any close proximity.”
Bihar needs more heroes like him, who think beyond their caste creed and religion.
"And I will continue to do the same till I myself die," he added.
