Dolphin man and senior zoology teacher of
Patna University R.K. Sinha and Magadh Mahila College principal Dolly
Sinha were among five felicitated as best teachers of the year year at
the function organised by Patna University.
At a function organised by Patna
University (PU) at Wheeler Senate Hall on Wednesday, the varsity
felicitated its five role model teachers, who were selected by the
varsity on the basis of a two-tier assessment
— teacher excellence and
students’ evaluation. The other teachers, who were felicitated were
senior mathematics teacher at BN College B.G. Prasad, senior geography
teacher K.N. Paswan and Persian department senior teacher Ghaffar
Siddiqui.
Speaking at the felicitation function,
vice-chancellor (VC) Shambhu Nath Singh said: “We have tried to select
teachers for their contribution to the university. At the same time,
teachers who were not selected should not feel dejected. They might be
felicitated some time later in future.”
The teachers were selected on the basis of
feedback provided by the students in choosing their role model apart
from the committee constituted by the varsity to select the best
teachers. The VC, however, accepted that students were not counselled
properly about mechanism for selecting the best teachers. The varsity
administration this year introduced online process of selecting best
teacher under which a student had to fill an online form giving his or
her preference about the teachers.
The VC said: “PU has the best teachers as compared other universities.”
Bharti S. Kumar, dean, social sciences,
said: “Respect for teachers cannot be demanded, it must be earned as
said by S. Radhakrishnan, the second president of India.”
