The tourism department will upgrade Kautilya Vihar with its own resources.
The ambitious plan, mooted three
years ago, has been scrapped. The hope for a better establishment is,
however, still alive.
A senior BSTDC officer told “There was a plan to upgrade the hotel into a five-star
facility with private partnership. Although the plan has been dropped
for now, facilities would be developed at the hotel. The BSTDC will
upgrade the hotel on its own without hiring any private firm. The
initial plans for the project are being discussed.”
The tourism corporation had selected a
Noida-based firm, Ultra Homes Constructions Pvt. Ltd, to revamp the
hotel three years ago. The firm was selected after a tender process.
Earlier this year, BSTDC Employees’
Association president Chandra Prakash Singh alleged that even three
years after issuing the tender, work on upgrading Kautilya Vihar has not
started.
Kautilya Vihar in Patna is not the only
focus for the tourism corporation’s revamp plan, though. Other hotels of
the BSTDC in tourist spots around the state would also be upgraded into
two- or three-star facilities.
At a two-star hotel, patrons can stay in
small or medium-sized rooms. Rooms in these hotels would have telephone
and television. Even though patrons cannot avail room service, a small
restaurant is expected to be on the premises. Three-star hotels would
offer patrons spacious rooms and decorated lobbies. Not only is room
service available at such establishments but also the hotels would also
have medium-sized restaurants.
The tourism corporation’s hotels in
Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Muzaffarpur and Mohania would be upgraded to two- and
three-star properties.
Bodhgaya has Siddharth Vihar and Buddha
Vihar; Muzaffarpur has Lichchavi Vihar; Rajgir has Tathagat Vihar,
Ajatshatru Vihar and Gautam Vihar; and Mohania has Kaimur Vihar under
the tourism corporation.
The officer said: “The corporation is
looking forward to the plan of overhauling its hotels and the work will
start in some time.”
Apart from upgrading its accommodations,
BSTDC is also ready with two hotels in Maner and Gaya. “The hotels
will be handed over to private parties for operation,” he added.
