A team of five from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, Patna campus won the People's Choice Award 2012 trophy and a sum of $10,000 in the contest held in Sydney, Australia from July 6 to 10.

 People Choice Award at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012. The Imagine Cup is the world’s hottest student technology competition designed to showcase the dreams, ideas and creativity of some of the brightest young minds in technology. With over 325,000 students registered globally, 2012 was one of the biggest competitions ever. From the 6-10 July, over 400 of the most talented students from 107 countries showcased their world-changing solutions and to compete for the worldwide title.



PATNA: A team of five from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, Patna campus - christened 'The D Labs' - has made the state proud as it has emerged victorious at the worldwide finals of the 'Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012'- the world's premier student technology competition.

Leaving behind over 60 teams who submitted their videos packed with innovative ideas from across the globe, the team, won the People's Choice Award 2012 trophy and a sum of $10,000 in the contest held in Sydney, Australia from July 6 to 10.

The teams includes Devesh Kumar (leader), a final-year student of BIT Mesra, Patna, his batchmates Abhishekh Kumar and Amit Kumar Sharma, Deepali Sinha, a second-year student, and their mentor Smita Pallavi, who is a computer science lecturer in the college.

This team had earlier won the national level of the contest held on April 25 in New Delhi in both the categories - software design and software design accessibility - leaving behind 300 teams from across the country.
 
 For the contest, this team had developed a software that enhances the learning abilities of school students suffering from dyslexia. The device records minute details of the child's activities and then creates solutions suited to the needs of the student, and orients games and exercises to address those needs.
