PATNA: Philosophers and sociologists who opined that live-in relationships would not easily get social acceptance in India, after two days of deliberations on "Live-in relationships in the Indian context", seemed to agree that such relations were rising in the country and it was up to individuals to go for it or not.

Sita Ram Singh, director, higher education, Bihar, said, "We are aware that live-in relations are happening either openly or behind curtains, and even in Patna there are such couples. The trend has just started picking up but entering into such relations depends on the thoughts and intentions of both partners."

TPS College principal Baban Singh said different shades of views were presented during the two-day seminar. "While those of us who hail from rural backdrop found it difficult to come to terms with this concept, the perspective that emerged at the seminar has made me think that in the coming years we will have to take a broad view of it," said Singh. However, all the pros and con of the concept of "bin phere hum tere" should be carefully considered, he added.
