The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has already awarded the contract to 'Rang Vikalp'. The statue will be completed in 22 months at an estimated cost of Rs 17.37 crore. The sandstone will be brought from Chunar in Uttar Pradesh. This statue will be taller than the one at Bodh Gaya (60x20ft).

The main sculptor, Sanyashi Red, told TOI that this project would be a major challenge for any artist. "We have to bring 2,800 tonnes of sandstone from Chunar. More than 150 artists would be working round the clock for the next 20 months at Chunar, Rajgir and Patna simultaneously," Sanyashi said.

"We will start foundation work at Ghora Katora lake site soon after the BSTDC clears the model. Our team will be working at three places - stonecutting at Chunar, designing and paperwork at our Patliputra Colony studio and the final work at the site," he said.

Another sculptor, Ratik Mohan Das, who had made Lord Buddha's statue at Bodh Gaya, would also be the part of this project. Last year, CM Nitish Kumar had made the announcement in this regard. The site, 105km from Patna, has turned out to be a major attraction for tourists. Motor vehicles are not allowed inside the site and polythene bags are also a big no-no.
