545 Prakash Utsav (Birthday Celebrations) of ''Sri Guru Nanak Devji'', the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikh Religion, who spread the message of peace and communal harmony across the world with thousands of Sikh devotees and other community faiths celebrating it with religious fervour (feelings of great warmth and intensity), gaiety and devotion by offering prayers.
At least 50,000 devotees, including those from
abroad, are likely to attend the Prakash Utsav celebrations organized to
mark the 347th birth anniversary of the tenth guru of Sikhs, Sri Guru
Gobind Singh, at Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Saheb at Patna City, beginning
Wednesday on 16th,january.
The three-day celebrations would be marked by chants
of hymns by renowned 'raagi-jatthas' and poets as well as display of
'gatka' (weapon-based martial art).
"While the 150 rooms of the
rest houses on the gurdwara premises are already occupied, additional
12 guesthouses have also been booked for pilgrims. Many families living
in the vicinity have offered their rooms to the pilgrims. A special bus
service has also been started by the gurdwara for the pilgrims," said
Charanjeet Singh, general secretary of the gurdwara prabhandak
committee.
'Badi prabhat pheri' was taken out on Tuesday
morning that marked the culmination of the morning processions which
were being taken out for several days. Thirteen poets from Delhi, Punjab
and Madhya Pradesh will perform at a special 'kavi darbar' on Wednesday
evening. A massive 'shobha yatra' will be taken out from Gurdwara Gai
Ghat to the Takht Saheb on Thursday evening. Three batches of 'panj
pyaras' dressed in traditional Sikh attire will lead the procession.
The procession will be followed by a four-hour 'kirtan darbar' starting
from 8pm. Seven 'ragi jatthas' from Delhi and Punjab will chant hymns
on all the three days. Devender Pal Singh of Indian Idol fame has also
been invited to the celebrations.
On Friday, the programme will
start at 2am with daily rituals which will be followed by 'kirtan',
poem and lecture sessions. A special souvenir 'Gobind Prakash' will also
be released on the occasion. The programme will be telecast live by
Doordarshan from 9.20am for three hours. Two private channels will also
telecast it live. On all the three days, 'langar' will go on. "Guru Ji's
birth will be celebrated at 1am on 19th. The programme will conclude at
2.30am with firecrackers," said Singh.
The administration has
agreed to deploy over 200 police personnel around the gurdwara to
maintain order, Singh said and added the gurdwara prabandhak committee's
own security personnel would also be on duty for the purpose.
