The sound and laser fountain show, inaugurated by chief minister Nitish
Kumar at Golghar in Patna on Monday, is based on the monument’s history
and (above) senior citizens greet each other with roses on the occasion
of Makar Sankranti during a function organised by HelpAge India at Eco
Park in Patna.
Patnaites will now be able
to enjoy a state-of-the-art laser show at city's historic Golghar
campus with the technology now in place after its formal inauguration by
chief minister Nitish Kumar.
Laser light formed patterns on a screen formed by water and a short
audio-visual clip depicting the history of Golghar completed the show
package. Water droplets from the fountain made beautiful formation of
waves or designs where water flowing upward converged or opened like a
flower to form visually delightful outline. Colourful lighting and
pleasing music added to the show that ended on a patriotic note.
The inaugural show explained the history of Golghar. The edifice was
commissioned by Warren Hastings, then Governor-General of India, to
store grains in 1770 after a severe drought struck Eastern India the
same year. It was completed in 1786 under Captain John Garstin. Almost
145 stairs would lead the visitor to its top at 29metre, while the
thickness of the walls at the base is 3.6 metre. Though a basic fault in
the structure, that is the gates of the granary open towards inside,
never made it fulfil its purpose.
The laser show being
organized for the first time in the state will be a half-an-hour show
for visitors at a cost of Rs 30 every day. The innovative effort by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation
(BSTDC) has been made possible by a team of experts from a
Kolkata-based musical fountain firm at a budget of almost Rs 1.1 crore.
Speaking to mediapersons, the CM appreciated the effort of BSTDC and
said, "I have advised them to also include the history of Patliputra in
the show." Asked how he liked the inaugural show, he cheekily replied,
"I liked the show just like everyone else." Also present on the occasion
were deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, tourism minister Sunil Kumar Pintoo and art, culture and youth affairs minister Sukhada Pandey among others.
