Bihar government will upgrade mulberry silk cultivation

Bihar government will upgrade mulberry silk cultivation as an industrial activity in Supaul and adjoining district of North-Eastern part of the state, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said
The North-Eastern districts of Bihar comprising Supaul, Saharsa, Kishanganj, Araria, Khagaria, Samastipur and Begusarai have ideal humid weather conditions for cultivation of mulberry silk cultivation which will be upgraded as an industrial activity, he said after inspecting the mulberry silkworm production centre in Sadanandpur village under Sarai Bhapatiyahi block of Supaul district.
Kumar, who is undertaking seva yatra to Supaul to take a first-hand account of implementation of various development and welfare schemes, said that a major ready-made garment manufacturer has been requested to set up a silk clothes in the region.
 The garment company has consented to provide training to the local people in cutting and stitching of silk fabric, the Chief Minister said.
Apparently impressed with silkworm cultivation in Sadanandpur village, he said that the village will be developed as a hub of silkworm cultivation, spinning of silk yarn and weaving of cloth.
Kumar also visited the Eastern Koshi embankment in Simri village and inspection rehabilitation works and directed the irrigation officials to ensure safety and security of the embankment ahead of the floods occurring in the region during monsoon season.
