PATNA :Good
marks in Plus Two will not be enough this year for admission to
undergraduate courses of Patna University (PU). Students will have to
qualify in a written test to bag a college seat.
The new process initiated by the
university administration will try to admit meritorious students. The
process of admission to PU will start with the sale of forms from June
1.
Patna University vice-chancellor (VC)
Shambhu Nath Singh said: “Admission in undergraduate courses will be
done through entrance tests at degree levels for which preparations are
on. A decision to this effect has already been taken by the academic
council of the university.”
Sixty per cent of the questions in the
admission test will be from the students’ Intermediate course. The rest
will be related to general knowledge, mental aptitude and current
affairs.
The VC added: “The idea behind holding the
admission test is to admit meritorious students, as it has been
noticed that different colleges under the varsity are not getting good
students. As students are admitted on the basis of marks obtained in the
Intermediate or equivalent Class XII examination, many students turn
out to be average or below average in merit.”
Though the varsity has announced to
conduct the entrance test, heads of various departments are uncertain
if the process will be implemented from this session or not.
A senior teacher of Patna Science College,
who is also the head of a department, said: “We have been hearing that
admission of students will depend on the written test. We have also
received a notice from the varsity administration. But it has not
sent any communica- tion thereafter.”
The teacher added that holding a written test requires proper planning, includ- ing a nod from the chancellor’s office.
