PATNA: Popular hobby of many people around the world is Bird watching.Bihar is making efforts to attract birdwatchers .
"Tourists can watch more than 3,000 birds of around 28 different species which fly to the state from other countries as well as various parts of India. Winter is the best season to watch these birds flying to this region," Navin Kumar, deputy general manager, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC), as he said.CM Nitish Kumar also enjoyed watching the migratory birds near the Danapur cantonment early
this year. Navin, while talking about the 'Greater Adjutant', one of the rare bird species found in Bihar, said they are found only in Assam, Bihar and Cambodia. A large number of them are also found in Bihar's Kosi region, said Navin, who is also a member of the Indian Bird Conservation Network.
'Lesser Adjutant'
Navin rescued a 'Lesser Adjutant' from Patna's East Lohanipur locality on May 3. The bird was seen in Patna for the first time. "It has been shifted to the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park here. It is under the close observation of vet Ajit Kumar," he said and added the 'Lesser Adjutant' is commonly found in a remote village, Pasraha in Khagaria district.
The tourism department has identified 28 birdwatching spots in different parts of the state. "We are developing such spots in Kadwa diara (Bhagalpur), Ghora Katora (Nalanda), Katihar and Sonbarsa in Saharsa district," he said.
"Tourists can also spot Black Bucks or the majestic Garuda in parts of Bihar," said Navin, who has compiled a handbook on birds with their details and locations in Bihar.
The BSTDC has launched a daylong package tour from Patna to Nalanda, a major birdwatching spot, to promote ecotourism in the state.
