Bihar Girl Madhvi Singh Topes ICSE, Exam with 98.8% marks

 The results for the Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) exam, which were declared on Saturday afternoon, a girl from Thane emerging joint all-India topper.
Shalaka Kulkarni, from Thane, jointly topped the exam with Madhvi Singh from Dhanbad. Both scored 98.80 per cent. While Shalaka is a student of Sulochana Devi Singhania School in Thane, Madhavi is a student of the Carmel School in Dhanbad.
In all, 99.15 per cent girls and 98.19 per cent boys passed the ICSE exam across the country while 98.35 per cent girls and 96.36 per cent boys passed the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination.
Similarly, Rohan Sampat of Dubai Model High School stood first in Class XII exams, scoring 99.50 per cent marks.
This year, 1.32 lakh students appeared in the Class Xth exam while 59,356 candidates appeared in Class XII exam.
“The southern region was the top performer. With a a pass percentage of 99.76 percentage in the ICSE exam and 99.35 percentage in ISC. This was followed by the western region, which included Maharashtra, eastern and northern regions,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive & secretary of Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.
 “The pass percentage in Class X for the western region is 99.71 percentage; 98.76 percentage for the eastern region and 97.65 percentage for the northern region. In Class XII, the pass percentage for the western region is 98.06, followed by 97.43 in the eastern region and 96.67 for the northern region.”
The Indian School Certificate Examinations conducts both ICSE and ISC exams in the country.
In Maharashtra, the overall pass percentage of state in ICSE is 99.90, while that in ISC is 98.86. In all, 10,754 students appeared for ISCE exam while 1,230 appeared for the ISC exams across the state.
Girls in Maharashtra, for yet another year, have done better than boys. “The pass percentage for girls in ICSE is 99.96, while that of boys is 99.85. In ISC, the pass percentage for girls is 99.34. For boys, it is 98.40,” said Gerry.
The state performance is in keeping with the national performance where girls have outperformed boys. The overall pass percentage of the state for Class X is 99.9, down by 0.03 per cent from last year. Similarly, in Class XII the overall pass percentage is 98.8 also down by 0.16 per cent as compared to last year.”
