Interestingly, it is a woman who takes the lead this time. Geetanjali Sinha, whose debut directorial venture will hit the halls on May 25, is among new faces. Geetanjali's film, "Yeh Khula Aasmaan", starring Raghubir Yadav and Yashpal Sharma revolves around a teenager, who, despite his best efforts, could not make it into the IIT and to dispel his depression blues his grandfather (Raghubir Yadav) comes into picture. Geetanjali says, "So far, Bollywood has just Prakash Jha when we talk about established directors from Bihar. He is a great director. We look up to him but then, I don't want a full stop after Prakash Jha's name when we count names of Bihari directors. There are many like us from the state who aspire to leave a mark on the industry. This is a small step in that direction." Geetanjali has shot her film in Bihar's Bhagalpur area.
And it is not just Geetanjali who hopes to make a mark. Comedy actor-turned-director from Patna, Sanjay Mishra's much-touted first directorial venture "Pranaam Vaalekum" is set for a tentative August release. The film's item number and Giselli Monteiro's transformation into a rustic nautanki wali is already the talking point. Says Mishra, "There is last minute shooting for scenes left and also a bit of post production work. Most probably the film will be released in August. I am busy shuttling in between my acting commitments and the film that is why it is getting a bit delayed."
After Sanjai is director Amit Rai. Also, a Patna guy, Rai is kick starting his Bollywood affair with the role of a co-director for "I Don't Love You" that is being directed by Amit Kasaria. The film stars national level badminton player Chetna. Says Rai, "A lot of people from Bihar are getting into the film industry. I hope the number grows."
