SAMASTIPUR: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his trip to Samastipur on Thursday as part of his ongoing Seva Yatra, visited the construction site of the proposed bridge on river Ganga which is supposed to connect Karjan village in Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district and Matiour village under the Mohanpur block in Samastipur district with a 45 Km four lane road upto Tajpur in Samastipur. The project cost around Rs 1,700 Crore and it would be completed by 2016.
CM also visited Parn village in Dalsingsarai and inspected various articles found during excavation and said that a Museum would be constructed to preserve the found articles He also visited and offered his prayer at Khudneshwar Asthan and directed the secretary of the tourism department to develop this place as a tourist spot. Later, he visited Sub Divisional Khadi Gram Udyog and Kasturba Gandhi Trust School at Waini.
Janata Durbar at the Patel Maidan where he also inaugurated more than 200 schemes designed to usher economic prosperity in the district.
The government has earmarked Rs. 479.52 crore for the purpose.
Touting his administration's investment in building roads and bridges, the Chief Minister said that his goal was to improve the income of Bihar's formers.
"More than 70% of the state's population is totally dependent on agriculture and that is why we have developed the agricultural road map under which Rs. 150 lakh crore would be spent in building infrastructure like roads, bridges, lakes, ponds, storage, and warehouses that would have direct impact on the economic condition of the farmers," he said.
Kumar, however, once again lamented the Center's reluctance in according special status to Bihar.
"Our demands are legitimate and until Bihar gets the special status, we will continue to push for it with all our might. We will ask the youths of Bihar and New Delhi to build pressure on the Central government because only then, we would be able to open the gate for investment," the Chief Minister said.
The program was presided over by state Industry Minister Renu Kushwaha and was attended by a number of party leaders including Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhary, former Bihar minister Ramnath Thakur, legislators Manju Verma and Sanjay Jha, and former Minister Sita Sinha, among others.
