Patna: A Bihari scientist Prof. Prabhat Ranjan,
currently Professor in Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and
Communication Technology (DAIICT), Ahmedabad, has created wonder and his
technology has enabled a brain dead 32-year-old alumni of Indian
Institute of Business Management (IIBM), Ahmedabad Suresh Karat a new
lease of life. Suresh had suffered brain stroke in 1999 and since then
he was practically living as dead person. Now with the implantation of
the wonderful device, discovered by Prof. Prabhat Ranjan, Suresh can
surf internet, interact with his teenaged son and his wife as well as
control fan, light, television and so on. Normalcy to a great extent
returning to Suresh’s life. With brain stroke, Suresh had developed a
quadripleg without speech and movement of his brain.
Prof. Prabhat, originally a resident of
Darbhanga district in north Bihar, has completed his schooling from
Netarhat and advance studies from Delhi, IIT, Kharagpur, Delhi
University, in United Kingdom, United States and different reputed
institutes of science and Physics. He had been recently to Bihar and in
course of his visit to the state, he enlightened the ministers,
officials, doctors about his innovative discovery and providing such
facilities to the handicapped people in the state. Prof. Prabhat,
although demonstrated his skill and expressed his desire to serve the
handicapped people of the state , but nobody in Bihar, specially the
present ruling dispensation in the state took him seriously. And being
disappointed, he returned and started working intensively in different
parts of the country with success after success. His yearning and hope
to serve the state was dashed thanks to the ruling political and
official elites of Bihar.
Prof. Prabhat Ranjan told this independent mediaperson on telephone
from Ahmedabad that his innovation and recent application had brought a
revolution in India. “First brain wave device has been implanted to
Suresh in India and Suresh is successfully responding. His quality of
life is moving towards tremendous improvements,” Prof Ranjan said.
Now Suresh, originally a resident of Coimbatore, was unable to
move his fingers and was dependent on family members for daily needs
since he suffered brain stroke in 1999, is now responding well ! IIBM,
Ahmedabad alumni rallied behind Suresh Karat and funded the Innovative
implantation on him. And now, Suresh Karat is gradually reaching a new
life. Suresh can also control and operate, bulb, fan switching etc with
yet another implantation on him a brain cepal, implanted on him by Prof
Prabhat. In his wife’s words, “Prof Prabhat has provided a device based
on monitoring of brain wave that allows Suresh to operate computer
after 13 years.”
Prof. Prabhat disclosed that the device “uses an imported neurohead
set originally used for playing video games. The new device recognises
final reorganisation of head movements and brain waves-just we
integrated the device while planting on Suresh Karat.” The Magnificent
Bihar website and Magnificent News Hindi fortnightly had carried a
detailed interview of Prof. Prabhat Ranjan a few months back and
highlighted his innovative discovery and also his desire to serve Bihar
where a large number of persons had suffered brain stroke or other
brain related disease and were virtually on death bed or in coma or
suffering other inferiority of brain development and other nerve related
disease for years together – niether dying nor living!
