Patna University (PU) and its colleges are likely to get a new face look soon.

    

PATNA: Patna University (PU) and its colleges are likely to get a new face look soon. The state government has sanctioned handsome grant for infrastructure development on the campus.

PU, the 7th. oldest university of the Indian sub-continent, has been sanctioned Rs 1 crore for developing a student activity centre on its campus.

Patna College, the oldest institution of higher education in the state celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, has been sanctioned Rs 3 crore for renovation and repair of its buildings and hostels. While Rs 2.73 crore has been earmarked the repair of the college buildings, Rs 65 lakh has been sanctioned for repair of its hostels.

Director, Higher education, Sita Ram Singh said Patna Science College, another premier institution of the state, has also been sanctioned approximately Rs 3 crore for repair of its buildings and development of the campus. A sum of Rs 1.67 crore would be spent on the treatment of its buildings' roofs, which are in dilapidated condition. A sum of Rs 1.30 crore would be spent on repair of its old buildings.

Magadh Mahila College would get Rs 1 crore for construction of second floor of its academic complex. The college has the problem of space for holding classes.

Patna Law College has been allotted Rs 92 lakh for construction of its library-cum-seminar hall. The college has also established K B N Singh Memorial Research Centre to promote research activities on the campus. Women's Training College would get Rs 30 lakh for its buildings repair.

Singh said all the construction works would be carried out by the State Education Infrastructure Development Corporation. The work for developing 50 selected colleges into 'centres of excellence' was also in progress, he added.
