PATNA: A team of four city
students - christened 'The D Labs' - will be representing the country
in the worldwide finals of the 'Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012', a student
technology competition, to be held in Sydney in July where the final winner will receive the prize money of Rs 13,02,875 ($25,000).
The team consists of three students of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Patna campus) - Devesh Kumar, Amit Kumar Sharma and Abhishek Kumar - and one student of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Patna - Deepali Sinha. They were announced national winners of the competition by Kevin Turner, chief operating officer, Microsoft Corporation, on April 25 in New Delhi. Nearly 50,000 students from across the country participated in the national round.
This Bihar-based team has developed a software to enhance the learning abilities of school students suffering from dyslexia. The device records minute details about the child's activities and then creates solutions suited to the needs of the student, and orients games and exercises to address those needs.
"We are incredibly excited! It's great to be part of something like Imagine Cup - and now we are getting a chance to represent India at the worldwide finals. Of course, we hope our project does well there too, but either way, we will cherish the whole experience for a lifetime. We have learnt so much," said Devesh Kumar, team leader, on the occasion.
