New device (SIMRAN) introduced know Exact Location of Train.

Held at the Hat Factory, dorks were treated to Moldover‘s phat performance and demo of his DIY MIDI controller the Mojo 69 and Dave Mathew‘s brilliant ideas on nite light computing and how to turn your house into a ubiquitous computing paradise, hacking household electronics into new devices with custom functionality. Simran Gleason got everyone up physically using Zombie Freeze Tag to explain Diffusion Limited Aggregation and Trademark G hacking the system by getting people to exchange Safeway and BevMo cards. PATNA: The newly introduced 'satellite imaging of the rail navigation (SIMRAN)' device has evoked a good response from passengers across the country. The new device was introduced as a pilot project last year. It enables passengers to know the exact location of any train, the platform on which it would arrive and the position of any particular coach.
According to a Railway Board official, this device is the result of the combined effort of the Research Design and Standard Organization (RDSO), Lucknow, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K). Passengers can visit the site www.simran.in to know the exact detail of train movement. Besides, passengers can also send a message from their cellphone to 09415139139, detailing therein the number of any particular train to know its position.
The railways has already introduced the new device in six trains, including Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express, Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Mumbai-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express and Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi Express, the official said. He added that about 80% of the mail and express trains would be brought under surveillance of this device soon.
According to sources, the railways has modified the new device to make it more effective. Under the new system, in addition to the location of train movement, the device would also inform passengers about the speed of the train and its arrival and departure time at any particular station, the sources said.
Fed up with the frequent complaints regarding wrong and evasive replies about train movement by the railway inquiry system, the Railway Board decided to introduce this system to fulfil the needs of computer and cellphone savvy passengers. The information being transmitted through SIMRAN could be cent per cent correct as the railways has been constantly keeping tabs on train movements through the centralized control system, the official said.
That apart, the railways has also introduced "real time train information system" to cater to the needs of passengers. This system gives information to the railway inquiry system about the movement of trains across the country. Passengers keen to know the exact position of any train, can learn about the same from the railway inquiry system. Information disseminated through interactive voice system 139 is hardly correct, the sources said.
