PATNA: The Bihar Rabita Committee,
a state-based organization which works for women's empowerment, is all

April 15.
Talking to mediapersons in Patna on Wednesday, committee's patron and noted surgeon Dr Ahmad Abdul Hai said, "We want to bring women's empowerment by ensuring their participation in public and professional life. So, we will focus on issues like female education, vocational education, health and hygiene, communal harmony, awareness about various social schemes and contribution to the process of change in the mindsets of patriarchal society in this caravan."
Giving details about the campaign, committee's general secretary Abdul Hussain said the caravan would be organized at 22 locations of four districts - Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar and Araria. Along with the district headquarters, villages would also be covered so that the impact reaches the ground level. He added, "The caravan would be addressed by 40 women from across India who have done exemplary work in their public or professional life."
Hussain further said the resource persons would include Dr. Halima Fadia, principal, Hamdard Public School, New Delhi, Dr Asma Zahara, a Hyderabad-based gynaecologist and Saba Hasnain, a Ford Fellow working on a UN project. The mode of deliberation in the campaign would be lectures, conferences and interactive sessions.
The weeklong campaign would conclude with the setting up of information centres in all the four districts, which would serve as vital source of knowledge for women in villages. "We will collect professional database of all the women attending the caravan. Then, to hone their skills further, workshops will be organized at the local level. The information centres will also help women to understand the importance of studies, rights and duties, job opportunities etc," Hussain said.
