Minister assures housing for urban poor

PATNA: Urban development and housing minister Prem Kumar, on Wednesday, visited the slums near Gayatri Mandir, Rainbow Field, Malai Pakkdi and Punaichak railway crossing on Wednesday.
The minister undertook the tour to the areas following a representation to him by Aashray Abhiyan. He was accompanied by Patna Municipal Corporation officials.
The minister assured the Aashray Abhiyan's director-secretary, Dorothy Fernandes, and her team that he would soon call a meeting of the departments concerned to identify vacant plots of land for building houses for the urban poor. He promised to take up housing for urban poor on priority basis.
He also told the slum-dwellers about the Swarn Jayanti Rozgar Yozna being launched by the government to develop skill of the poor youths living in urban areas of the state. He asked the Aashray Abhiyan team to fill their forms and submit them by April end.
Aashray Abhiyan is an initiative of Jan Kalyan Gramin Vikas Samiti. Dorothy said the minister's visit had raised the poor people's hopes for getting good houses to live in.
